Function of 7.3 Glow Plugs

Ignition Assistance: In diesel engines, especially in colder temperatures, the air inside the combustion chamber may not reach a high enough temperature through compression alone to ignite the diesel fuel. Glow plugs preheat the combustion chamber to aid in starting the engine.


Heating Element: Each glow plug contains a heating element that heats up when electrical current flows through it. This heating element can reach temperatures of around 1000°C (1832°F) or higher, depending on the design.


Activation: Before starting the engine, the glow plugs are activated for a short period to heat the air within the combustion chamber. This ensures that when fuel is injected into the cylinder, it ignites quickly and efficiently.
